Having problems with choosing an Antivirus Applications?

Why do you need an antivirus? Unfortunately there are malicious intentions of people out there in the computer world that have created programs and codes that are designed to harm your computer. However luckily there are software vendors that have designed applications to help prevent and counter these threats. These are called Antivirus programs.

One of the most prominent Antivirus applications is 360 by Norton. This is designed for home or small office use and is a one off purchase. It uses the Symantec scan engine which is updated weekly. It is very competent at picking up threats but uses a lot of system resources. If you have an older computer, this may not be the Antivirus for you.

AVG Anti-Virus free edition is a very competent anti-virus. It features a Anti-virus engine, Anti-spyware engine, email scanner and a background scanner. It is licensed for personal use only and is quite low on system resources. Also, it's FREE!

Can you install these Anti-virus applications yourself?

Yes you can! It is very simple to install these applications. Please watch these video walkthroughs on how to install these applications.

Do I need to do anything regularly with the Anti-virus?

When you install most Anti-virus's, the application will run a scan of your whole computer. This is to find threats already on it. Once this is done, all the Anti-virus applications listed above will automatically watch your computer to make sure that it is not infected. It is, however, advisable that you perform a complete scan of your computer, either fortnightly or monthly, to ensure that everything is ok. Some Anti-virus applications even schedule this for you to make it even easier!

Hey Sally,
Multiple home pages mean that when you open your browser you can have multiple 'tabbed' pages open. Can be pretty useful.

Hey Mandy,
There are two easy ways to change your homepage to google. The first way is to go to google and then select 'Make Google my homepage' in the bottom center of the page. The other way is to go to the 'Tools' menu and then select 'Internet Options'. Once in there you will see a section labelled 'Homepage'. Just change what is written in there with 'http://www.google.com.au'. Let me know if this doesn't work and I will make an instructional video for you! :)
